Massage Therapy Clinic & Essex Bowen Clinic - Burnham on Crouch & Brentwood
Our aim as Bowen therapists is to assist individual clients in the reduction, frequency and severity of attacks, bringing a better quality of lifePrimary headaches occur because of physical stress placed on the body. The brain tissue itself is not sensitive to pain because it lacks pain receptors. The pain is caused by disturbance of the pain-sensitive structures around the brain. (e.g.: muscles, nerves, ears etc)The stresses can cause the muscles surrounding the skull to clench the teeth and go into spasm. Physical stressors include difficult and prolonged manual labour, or sitting, concentrating, at a desk /computer for long periods of time.Emotional stress can also cause headaches by causing the muscles surrounding the skull to contract.Essex Bowen Treatments vary, different headaches have different symptoms, different causes and require different approaches to treatment. Bowen Therapy treats the body as a whole, this is particularly effective in the treatment of headaches/ migraines, which may have multiple potential causes. Bowen Therapy is a natural approach to healing using, targeted stimuli to activate the central nervous system. It addresses dysfunctions within the body and activates the body’s natural ability for self-healing restoring balance. Some clients are best treated by addressing overall posture, while other headache types require more targeted moves once the body has been balanced. Some people may feel relief with only a couple of treatments others may require a longer course to address the root cause of the problem.
Secondary Headaches require immediate medical attention, as they are attributed to potentially life-threatening ailments. If you are concerned or in doubt about which type of head pain you have please seek medical advice/ consult your doctor. The following are all Primary Headaches:All details given are for information purposes and was compiled by my own personal study into headaches and migraines and should not be used to replace a medical consultation.

Possible Causes/Factors:Medication Overuse Headaches or rebound headaches, are a common problem that develops when people who have migraines or tension headaches use acute headache medication too often to treat their headaches. Acute medications are those intended to be taken when a headache occurs, rather than prevent them. Often the sufferer then takes more medication, starting a cycle of relief and rebounding headache, because the triggers remain.Rather than address the cause of the headache, it often seems easier to keep taking pain-relieving medications. Overusing certain medications can actually lead to a worsening of headaches.
How Bowen Can Help Bowen Therapy helps rebound headache sufferers by treating the original source of the headache/ migraine. Addressing the cause of the problem, together with weaning off medication, helps to reduce the frequency and severity of headaches. Medical support may be needed to reduce the dependence on some medication

A good diet of fruit, vegetables, minerals and fibre might help reduce the intensity and frequency of your headaches. Avoid foods with high Histamine (smoked fish, cured meats, cheeses, it is a chemical found naturally in the body but some people are not able to excrete it properly. Avoid preservatives added to foods e.g.: hot dogs, sausages, bacon as they contain Nitrates and Nitrites. Nitrites may trigger headaches as they cause the expansion of blood vessels. Limit the amount of processed meats choose nitrate free products where possible. Elimination diet for 4 weeks removing one food at a time e.g. coffee, chocolate, citrus fruits.Ginger Root Tea- contains antioxidants /anti-inflammatory substances reducing migraine pain, reduces nausea and vomiting
